Non-Toxic Laundry Soap

Hey lovely readers!

Today, we're diving into a topic that's both close to our hearts and our homes: laundry soap. With the ever-increasing awareness of the harmful chemicals present in many household products, many of us are searching for safer alternatives. Non-toxic laundry soaps not only benefit our health but also minimize environmental harm. Our simple laundry soap can be mixed with 1 gallon of distilled water. I boil mine in a tea kettle just to ensure the soap bar is fully dissolved. You can also break up the soap bar for a faster break down of the soap.

Why Go Non-Toxic?

  1. Skin Health: Our skin is our largest organ. Regular laundry detergents often contain chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin or exacerbate conditions like eczema.

  2. Environmental Impact: Phosphates, a common ingredient in detergents, can cause water pollution. They can lead to algal blooms that harm aquatic life.

  3. Overall Health: Some conventional detergents may contain carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and other harmful chemicals that can affect our long-term health.

Ingredients to Avoid:

  1. Fragrance: A catch-all term that can refer to a mix of several chemicals. Some can cause allergies, asthma, and hormone disruption.

  2. Phosphates: Harm aquatic life when they make their way into waterways.

  3. Optical Brighteners: These can be allergenic and are not biodegradable. They make clothes appear brighter by reflecting more light.

  4. Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs): Known endocrine disruptors which can be harmful in small amounts
